Ms. McDonald Jonsson conceived of the idea of linking women leaders of
the world in the mid-1990s when she organized and co-chaired with
Senator Patty Murray of Washington State the first Women's Trade and
Study delegation to Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
McDonald
Jonsson was also the founding chair for the Center for Women and
Democracy at the University of Washington which initiated the first
delegation of women leaders to Cuba, led by Senator Maria Cantwell in
2002. This visit resulted in an historic trade agreement between
Washington state and Cuba.In 2003 Ms. McDonald Jonsson initiated
a second visit to Cuba again with Senator Maria Cantwell which
culminated in the first women's business exchange between the United
States and Cuba. Also, in 2003 the Center for Women and Democracy
sponsored a delegation of prominent women leaders to Sweden, Estonia,
Latvia and Lithuania. and in 2004 the Center for Women and Democracy
continued the mission of linking women leaders of the world through its
delegation to South Africa.
In order to more effectively support women on a global scale and continue to champion the ideals of Commerce With A Conscience, Ms. McDonald Jonsson formed Stellar International Networks in 2005.
Stellar's mission is to act as a catalyst in
bringing together women leaders from around the globe in order to
create community, enhance understanding, and expand economic
opportunities which can lead to a more humane and compassionate world
for women, their families, and the communities in which they live.
Our goal, through international collaboration, is to support and enhance all women’s participation, influence and visibility, globally and in their respective societies.
